This book follows Crazy Horse, the infamous leader in the Battle of Little Bighorn. (Though the book discusses way more than just the Battle) The book covers his entire life from childhood, all the way through the end.

The story is one of controversy, of love, of leadership, and what it meant to be a Native American at the time/5. Marshall takes this well known story, and turns it inside out--giving us a biography of Crazy Horse, in which the well known battle plays such a small part, that I almost missed it.

Marshall sets Crazy Horse's life in historical perspective--that is, the Lakota history--not that of the US. Crazy Horse had a role thrust upon him, a role he seems not to have chosen himself although he accepted it, which led him through tragedy and into a dark future for his people.

The book tells a story of the Lakota and other Indians that shows their divisions and betrayals as partly the cause of their own by: 8. Crazyhorse has been publishing the best established and emerging writers for over 50 years.

The work we've published has recently been reprinted in Best American Short Stories, Best American Poetry, Best New Poets, Best American Experimental Writing, and. Simply put, Crazy Horse may very well be one of the 5 best books that I read in At pages, he honestly tells the story of a warrior that did not want to be known well by any man, or who really wanted to live close to any man, Larry McMurtry is a very well known writer of fiction of the American West/5.

This book is a compelling addition to the body of works about Crazy Horse and the complicated and often conflicting events of that time period in American History. Floyd Clown, Doug War Eagle, and Don Red Thunder are the sole administrators and spokesmen of the Crazy Horse estate and often speak at historical gatherings and national parks about their family’s history/5(67).

Crazyhorse aims to publish work that reflects the multiple poetries of the twenty-first century. While our taste represents a wide range of aesthetics, from poets at all stages of their writing careers, we read with a discerning eye for poems that demonstrate a rhetorical and formal intelligence—that is, poems that know why they are written in the manner that they are.

"Crazy Horse and Custer " is an excellent, well rounded book that takes a topic that is very tender in American History, and presents both sides of the issue, allowing the reader to form their own viewpoint on the Native American's history in the northern Plains/5(K).

A mythic figure puzzled over by generations of historians, Crazy Horse emerges from McMurtry’s sensitive portrait as the poignant hero of a long-since-vanished epoch.
